A woman in Cyprus who cares for stray cats has captured hearts online with a video showing a touching reunion between her and a stray cat.
The clip, posted in April on TikTok by @cats.of.cyprus, shows the cat resting in the grass. When he notices the woman approaching, he immediately sprints toward her with excitement.
“When my stray cat realizes I’m back,” the video reads, with the caption adding: “I missed you too.”
The video quickly went viral, earning over 1.1 million views and 255,200 likes.
Cats are often thought of as distant or independent animals, but experts say they are capable of forming deep bonds with humans. A 2019 study found that cats, like dogs, can develop strong attachments to their caregivers. Cats may even pick favorite people, often choosing those who spend time learning their signals and personalities.
A cat’s preference can also depend on the human’s personality. Calm and quiet people are more likely to win over relaxed cats. Building trust involves spending quality time with them, whether through play, cuddles, or simply being present.
The emotional TikTok drew many heartfelt responses. One user, Vanessa Kennedy, urged: “Please take him home… he definitely loves you.” Another, Sheila-Guapa, commented: “That’s not a stray cat! That’s YOUR cat!” A third, Sickmoon, added: “If he comes running like that, it’s not a stray anymore.”
The video serves as a reminder of the deep emotional connections that can form between humans and stray animals, even in the most unlikely circumstances.
