A Scottish Fold cat from Alaska is winning hearts on TikTok with his hilarious demands for a midnight snack.
In a viral video posted Thursday by user @puffindoestricks, the clever feline, named Puffin, uses his talking buttons to insist on getting treats. The clip shows Puffin repeatedly tapping the “treat” and “now” buttons while his owner tries to explain that he has had enough and it’s bedtime.
When asked what else he wants, Puffin presses the “catnip” button, which his owner agrees to.
Cats often get underestimated for their intelligence, but experts say they are much smarter than people think. According to feline wellness experts at Catster, cats can recognize their owner’s voice and may even understand some specific words—though only in certain situations.
The website explains that cats tend to ignore most of what is said to them, recognizing only a few words. Even then, those words don’t have the same meaning to cats as they do to humans. However, when a cat hears its name or other familiar words, it knows something involving it is about to happen.
The video has quickly gone viral, earning over 755,000 views and more than 44,000 likes on TikTok.
Viewers shared amused reactions in the comments. User XFO 8 wrote, “Catnip at bedtime is literally wild.” Another, Narges, joked about Puffin’s “death stare” between button presses. Angiepangie said, “That cat is actually talking to you and giving you full attitude.”
Michelle Durban humorously added, “Cat be like, ‘These are command buttons, not questions. What part of ‘give me a dang treat’ don’t you understand?’”
Mme Ex commented, “If I can’t get a treat, I might as well get high! I would have fallen out laughing!”
Newsweek reached out to @puffindoestricks via TikTok but could not verify the details of Puffin’s story.
