A former stray cat from Denver has become a viral sensation after being caught on camera stealing a piece of bread from his owner’s kitchen—and refusing to let it go.
The clip, posted to TikTok in May by user @carlykfuller, shows the tuxedo cat, Corbin, gripping the bread tightly with his paws and teeth as his owner tries to retrieve it using kitchen tongs. Despite her efforts, Corbin growls and clings to the bread as though it’s his most treasured item.
The video’s overlay text jokes, “Side effects of taking in a stray cat: the demons come out,” while the caption adds, “Someone save me from this cat (he’s actually a sweet boy until the demons come out).”
The clip struck a chord with viewers, earning more than 472,000 views and over 51,800 likes on TikTok.
Although the moment was funny, experts caution that bread isn’t a good food choice for cats. While not toxic in small amounts, it offers no nutritional value for felines.
According to PetMD, cats are “obligate carnivores,” which means they need nutrients found primarily in meat. Bread lacks those essential proteins and is considered empty calories for cats. In fact, too many carbohydrates can be unhealthy for them.
Even more concerning are flavored breads. Loaves that contain sugar, spices, onions, or garlic are toxic to cats and should be avoided entirely. Raw dough is also dangerous, as it can expand in the stomach and cause serious health issues. Other human foods to keep away from cats include chocolate, raw meat or eggs, grapes, raisins, bones, yeast, milk, alcohol, and citrus.
Still, viewers couldn’t help but laugh at Corbin’s determination. One TikTok user, Christian S, commented, “Are you planning on eating that bread? If not, why can’t he just have it? Just saying.”
Another user, Shawnna Marie, joked, “God forbid the cat wants a roll with dinner.” Brooke.m added, “Our youngest cat came from the streets. He’s a dumpster goblin. If I don’t share bananas with him, he’ll murder my face. I literally just found my last banana on the floor in the kitchen…”
While Corbin’s bread theft is good for a laugh, the viral moment is also a reminder that even the cutest criminals need a healthy, balanced diet.
