A 14-year-old dog named Darby in the United States has been rejuvenated after its owner accidentally adopted a kitten named Simon. At first, the owner, who had just experienced the pain of losing his cat, had no plan to get a new pet. However, when he met Simon, who was 10 weeks old, at the pet store, he was touched by his affectionate behavior and immediately took it home.
Simon was as lively as a dog. He approached Darby, who was still in sadness at that time, on his own initiative. Despite being treated coldly, he persisted. Ultimately, Darby’s maternal instincts were aroused, and Simon was brought under her wing, thus forming a deep bond between the two.
The owner said that Simon’s company made Darby’s tail wag more frequently, even knocking over objects, and Darby’s care also made Simon look more “dog-like”. The 11-year age gap between the two partners healed each other. Darby remained youthful and energetic because of Simon, while Simon imitated Darby’s behavior. The owner exclaimed that this was the first time she had witnessed such a close emotional bond among pets. “They would suffer when separated.”
Now, Darby has just celebrated his 14th birthday and still looks vigorous, confirming the wonderful power of this cross-species friendship.
