JJ Yosh didn’t have a harmonious relationship with his beloved cat Simon at first. Simon wasn’t even willing to get close to him. But a hiking trip changed all this. JJ tried to carry Simon on a walk with a safety belt. When the cat was tired, he would carry it on his shoulder, and thus the nickname “Backpacker Cat” was born. Nowadays, this pair has become regulars in outdoor activities and often attracts exclamations from passers-by.
Simon not only goes hiking, but also follows JJ for rafting, cycling, rock climbing and even swimming. JJ prepared winter clothes, life jackets and other equipment for it, and adjusted the intensity of the adventure to ensure safety. Simon’s adventurous spirit impressed JJ, but as a cat’s nature – behaviors such as chasing rodents and tearing toilet paper were still retained.
JJ said that Simon taught him to live in the moment, and watching the sunrise together every day became a regular ritual. Although they have completed more than 50 road trips together, their relationship is still growing.
Experts suggest that cats should first adapt to the yard and safety belts, ensure they are vaccinated and have pest control measures taken, wear information collars and have chips implanted. When going out, carry snacks and water, pay attention to fatigue signals and avoid high-risk environments.
This pair of “soulmates” proves that patience and adaptation can enable pets to share extraordinary journeys with their owners.
