A mischievous cat in England has earned a reputation as a feline felon—snatching everything from socks to mop heads from her unsuspecting neighbors.
Taboo, a 12-year-old black-and-white cat from Otley, West Yorkshire, has turned theft into a habit, pilfering laundry and gardening gear left outside by locals. Her owner, Sandra Danskin, told SWNS she now uses social media to return the weekly haul of stolen goods.
Gloves, shoes, and socks are Taboo’s favorites, but her loot doesn’t stop there. “This morning, I had four pairs of socks and a pair of underpants,” Danskin said. “She loves bringing back clothing, but we’ve also had mop heads and kitchen rolls.” The stolen items often appear on the driveway or near the cat flap after Danskin’s night shifts.
Despite her prolific stealing, Taboo rarely gets caught. Danskin suspects the cat swipes items from laundry lines—and even sneaks into homes when doors are left open. One neighbor once caught Taboo red-pawed, stealing a shirt straight from their dryer.
Oddly, the feline insists on completing sets. “If she finds a matching pair of socks, she’ll bring both home—one at a time,” Danskin said. Taboo’s escapades don’t end with clothing: she’s also dragged home soggy cardboard and, on one ill-fated mission, a carton of smashed eggs.
Her owner knows when Taboo is returning with contraband—the cat announces her arrivals with a “high-pitched whining noise.”
For now, Otley residents might want to keep a closer eye on their laundry—and their dryers.
