CORNWALL, Conn. — An 8-year-old cat named Ravi is on his way to a new home after being surrendered to The Little Guild Animal Shelter for an unexpected reason: his overwhelming affection. The feline’s heartwarming story went viral on TikTok, garnering over 12.6 million views and prompting more than 160 adoption applications, according to shelter staff.
A Viral Sensation
On February 11, the shelter posted a TikTok video featuring Ravi eagerly climbing out of his cage to nuzzle a staff member. Set to Kimya Dawson’s “You Love Me,” the clip humorously highlighted his surrender reason—being “too affectionate”—and quickly captured hearts worldwide.
“This cuddly 8-year-old boy wants a family that will love him unconditionally,”* the shelter wrote in the caption.
In a follow-up video, a staff member, cradling the purring cat, expressed amazement at the response. “We cannot believe this video blew up the way it did,” they said. “We’ve gotten over 100 applications for him, so he’ll find a home very shortly.”
Adoption Process in Motion
Due to the flood of applications, the shelter—which operates with a small team—asked for patience as they carefully review submissions.
“We only have one person processing applications, and it typically takes five to seven business days,” a staff member explained. “Not everyone will be able to adopt Ravi, but we have other sweet cats who also need homes.”
Shelter manager Tiffany Lemelin confirmed to PEOPLE that Ravi has an upcoming adoption appointment. “We are all very excited and in awe of the enormous response,” she said. “He’s made a huge impact just by being himself.”
A Spotlight on Shelter Pets
Jennifer Langendoerfer, the shelter’s executive director, noted that Ravi’s viral fame has helped raise awareness for other animals in need.
