SOMERSET, U.K. — Ferne Animal Sanctuary has officially opened new overnight boarding facilities for dogs and cats, offering pet owners a trusted care option while supporting the charity’s ongoing rescue mission.
Located in the heart of the Blackdown Hills, a designated National Landscape, the sanctuary’s upgraded kennels and cattery provide a safe, comfortable, and enriching environment for pets needing short- or long-term stays.
Each dog kennel is spacious, with attached outdoor runs and underfloor heating that can be adjusted to each dog’s comfort. Dogs will also enjoy daily enrichment, including a minimum 45-minute walk and access to a sensory garden. An agility course is available for more active dogs.
The cattery is set in a quiet area overlooking the sanctuary’s plantation. Each pen is insulated, features an air-purifying system, and includes multiple bedding choices from ground level to elevated perches. A secure outdoor run is also attached to every pen. Soft music plays in the background to help reduce stress, and the design includes biosecurity measures for health and safety.
Kevan Hodges, Chief Executive Officer of Ferne Animal Sanctuary, said the new facilities reflect the charity’s commitment to exceptional pet care.
“For more than 85 years, Ferne has been a safe haven for animals. These new boarding services continue that tradition,” he said. “Every pet is unique, and our services are flexible to meet their individual needs—whether that’s a cat who loves to lounge or a dog who needs plenty of playtime.”
Boarding rates start at £15 per night for cats and £25 per night for dogs. Discounts are available for multiple pets, military families, and first-time boarders who have adopted from Ferne.
Sanctuary staff will check on pets overnight, and partnered veterinary care is available locally in case of emergencies.
All proceeds from the boarding service go directly to support the 300+ surrendered and rescued animals currently living at Ferne.
“We want pet owners to feel confident their animals are receiving the best care possible,” Hodges said. “Our experienced team is here to make every pet’s stay happy, healthy, and as close to home as possible.”
