Two months ago, Best Friends Felines—a volunteer-led animal rescue—stepped in to help a young mother cat and her two kittens, who had been found during a storm and brought to a veterinary clinic. Little did the rescuers know, the feline family was about to grow in the most unexpected way.
A Stormy Start and a Hidden Secret
The trio—named Eva (the mother) and her kittens Pumpkin and Cocomelon—were exhausted but safe when they arrived at the rescue. Foster volunteer Becc welcomed them into her home, where the kittens quickly settled in, and Eva began gaining weight while still nursing her “big babies.” But something seemed off. A routine vet check revealed the surprise: Eva was pregnant again.
“Cats can become pregnant while nursing, sometimes going into heat just weeks after giving birth,” the rescue explained. Though unexpected, the team vowed to support Eva through this final pregnancy—ensuring she’d never face motherhood alone again.
Preparing for the Unexpected Arrival
