RINGOES, N.J. — Three paraplegic cats—Tigger, Linda, and Pixie—have started a new chapter after flying from Kansas to New Jersey, where two of them have already been adopted by staff at Tabby’s Place, a sanctuary specializing in special-needs felines.
The rescue organization shared the heartwarming journey on Facebook, detailing the cats’ arrival and their smooth transition into care. “These sweet cats now have a forever home with the best medical care—and endless love,” the post read. Photographer Mark Lovretin captured their intake process, documenting the trio’s first steps (or rolls) into their new lives.
A Warm Welcome—and a Bath
Despite the long flight, the cats adjusted quickly. “They’re doing incredibly well,” the sanctuary reported, though Pixie needed a post-flight bath—which she handled like a champ.
Before the trio could fully settle in, two Tabby’s Place employees stepped up to adopt. Danielle Rice, Sanctuary Operations Manager, and Denise Jeffries, Senior Veterinary Technician, welcomed Linda (8 months) and Tigger (6 years) into their homes. Meanwhile, Pixie, a resilient 1-year-old orange tabby, is still waiting for her perfect match.
Pixie’s Story: From Tragedy to Hope
Pixie’s journey has been especially harrowing. Found paralyzed under a mobile home in Kansas, she had been shot in the spine—part of a cruel trend of targeting cats in her former neighborhood. Despite her injuries, her spirit remains unbroken.
“We’re already over the moon for her,” said Angela Elizabeth Townsend, Development Director at Tabby’s Place. “She’s made herself at home in our hearts, and we’re confident she’ll find an adopter as special as she is—but we’re prepared to love her for life if needed.”
The Perfect Home for Pixie
Prospective adopters should be ready for the unique demands of caring for a paraplegic cat, including expressing her bladder and cleaning up occasional accidents. “But most importantly,” Townsend adds, “they’ll need a sense of fun—Pixie loves to play and frolic!”
