A newlywed couple’s honeymoon took an unexpected turn when they rescued an abandoned kitten in distress on the side of the road—and promptly made her part of their celebration.
The bride, whose account was shared with the Associated Press, said her husband spotted the tiny white kitten while driving on the interstate the morning after their wedding. “He slowed down immediately and pulled over,” she said. “She was smaller than my hand, bleeding from her mouth, and barely able to open her eyes.”
Footage captured by the couple shows the groom sprinting back to the car with the kitten, which was hyperventilating and hot to the touch. “We thought she might not make it,” the bride admitted.
Emergency Vet Visit Before Honeymoon
Instead of heading straight to their hotel, the couple rushed the kitten to a veterinarian. The tiny feline, temporarily named “Caterpillar” after they initially mistook her for an insect in the desert, was covered in fleas and had a mouth injury too small to stitch. After a bath and antibiotics, however, she was cleared to join the newlyweds.
“She got a surprisingly good bill of health,” the bride said. “We weren’t leaving her alone—so she came everywhere with us.” The kitten traveled in a repurposed purse, bottle-fed and even learned to use a makeshift litter box.
A “Wedding Gift from the Universe”
By the end of the trip, the rescued kitten was living in luxury—perched on a Ritz-Carlton room service cart nibbling smoked salmon beside her new owners. “We’re so happy to have her,” the bride said. “She’s our wedding gift from the universe.”
The couple’s viral story echoes other remarkable animal rescues, including a kitten surviving a 250-mile car ride trapped in a BMW’s undercarriage and a woman with anxiety adopting a cat with similar struggles.
