Sarah Jessica Parker has blurred the lines between fiction and reality by adopting the kitten who played Carrie Bradshaw’s feline companion, Shoe, in And Just Like That….
The 58-year-old actress announced the news on Instagram Tuesday, revealing that the rescue cat, now named Lotus, has officially joined her family.
“His off-camera name is Lotus,” Parker wrote alongside a series of adorable photos. “He and his siblings were given botanical names when rescued as newborns by the @cthumanesociety.” She added that Lotus was adopted in April 2023 and now lives alongside her two other cats, Rémy and Smila, whom she welcomed in May 2022.
Lotus first appeared on the Max series after being brought to the set by the Connecticut Humane Society. In the show, Carrie adopts Shoe after the kitten is brought to her apartment by Che Diaz (Sara Ramírez).
The shelter celebrated Lotus’s Hollywood-to-forever-home journey in a Facebook post: “Some pets get really exciting foster homes—little Lotus got to be on the set of And Just Like That… with Sarah Jessica Parker in Manhattan! Did you see his adorable debut? And #spoileralert, he liked the spotlight so much, he’s staying on the show!”
Parker’s Instagram post featured several snapshots of Lotus, including one of her nuzzling the kitten and another of him lounging on a table. The announcement came just days after writer Evan Ross Katz shared stills from the show, jokingly calling Shoe his “favorite character” of season 2. Parker playfully responded in her caption: “You weren’t wrong @evanrosskatz. X, SJ.”
The adoption news coincided with And Just Like That…’s season 2 finale, which aired August 24 and included a surprise cameo by Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones. Ahead of the finale, Max renewed the series for a third season.
“We’re thrilled to spend more time in the Sex and the City universe,” executive producer Michael Patrick King said in a statement. “And Just Like That… here comes season three.”
Meanwhile, fans can soon own a piece of Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe—her vibrant Bird of Paradise wedding headpiece is set to be auctioned at Sotheby’s.
