Sioux City, IA – The Sioux City Animal Adoption and Rescue has united an extraordinary feline family—a blind cat named Keller, his likely mother who helps guide him, and a spirited kitten who completes their trio.
A Unique Bond
Last month, the shelter took in Keller, a black-and-white cat born without eyes. Days later, they rescued another blind cat believed to be his mother. The two share an inseparable bond, with the older feline acting as Keller’s “seeing-eye” companion, guiding him through new spaces.
“It was a unique situation,” said Cindy Rarrat, the shelter’s director. “We impounded Keller first—he had no eyes and was disoriented. Then we found his possible mother, who clearly knew how to care for him.”
Health Challenges and a New Addition
Shortly after the pair’s reunion, veterinarians discovered the older cat had severe health issues, including a mouth infection and a sinus tumor, requiring surgery and a full tooth extraction.
To ensure Keller always has support, the shelter introduced Trixie, a bold nine-week-old kitten, to the family. Trixie quickly bonded with Keller, learning to play with him and giving his older companion a much-needed break.
Searching for a Forever Home
Now, the shelter hopes to find a home willing to adopt all three cats together.
“We’re looking for that special someone who’ll give these amazing cats the life they deserve,” Rarrat said.
