San Antonio, TX — A fearless feline with a penchant for high places found itself in a precarious situation Friday after being spotted stranded on a narrow ledge above a busy overpass. Thanks to the swift response of San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS), the cat—now aptly named Bridges—was safely rescued and is recovering while awaiting a potential reunion with his family.
A Risky Rescue Mission
ACS officers responded to a 311 call reporting a cat trapped on the elevated ledge. When Animal Care Officer Tutak and Animal Care Sgt. Flores arrived, they found the orange tabby lounging dangerously close to the edge.
“We approached with extreme care to avoid startling him into jumping,” ACS stated in a Facebook post. Photos from the scene showed Bridges initially wary of his rescuers, his expression reflecting clear distress. However, he eventually allowed them to lift him to safety.
From Ledge to Shelter: Bridges’ Recovery
After the rescue, Bridges was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic for evaluation. While he showed signs of a possible respiratory infection, he had no major injuries and was deemed healthy despite his ordeal.
“He’s actually a really sweet cat,” said Kaitlan Helton, an ACS education specialist. “The photos made him look hissy, but he was just stressed. Once he got here, he completely opened up.”
A Week of Dramatic Cat Rescues
Bridges’ rescue was just one of several high-stakes feline interventions ACS handled recently. Helton noted that the agency has dealt with multiple unusual cases this week, including freeing a cat from a sewer by removing a manhole cover.
Hope for a Happy Ending
The best news may still be ahead for Bridges—ACS believes they have located his owners and are working to confirm a reunion. If successful, the adventurous tabby will soon be back home, hopefully with fewer daredevil antics.
For now, Bridges remains in ACS care, receiving what the agency calls “further love and care” until his next chapter begins.
