When animal rescuer Nadija first met Chip at a county shelter, the tiny kitten was alone in his kennel—dirty, malnourished, and battling a severe eye infection. Though already caring for multiple fosters, Nadija couldn’t shake the thought of him. After more than a week with no takers, she stepped in to give him a chance.
A Rough Beginning
Chip’s early days were tough. After undergoing eye surgery, he was frail, covered in flea dirt, and exhausted. Nadija brought him home, swaddled him in warm blankets, and let him rest. “I spent a lot of time just laying with him, which he loved,” she said. “He needed to feel safe.”
For days, Chip slept deeply, recovering his strength. But even as his spirit brightened, he faced challenges—low energy, stomach issues, and trouble using the litter box. Yet, through it all, he remained affectionate, “thanking” Nadija with gentle face licks and purrs.
A Playful Turnaround
After nearly two months of dedicated care—medications, special foods, and massages—Chip turned a corner. His energy surged, and he discovered the joy of toys. Soon, Nadija introduced him to fellow foster kittens Milo and Alfie, a blind tuxedo cat. The trio became fast friends, with Chip keeping up in playful tumbles despite his stubby legs.
“He’s an energetic little potato that wobbles, but it adds to his charm,” Nadija laughed. Though his mobility is limited, Chip’s determination shines. “He’s not a ‘normal’ kitten, but he’s thriving.”
A Bright Future
Today, Chip spends his days wrestling toys, napping on heating pads, and cuddling with Alfie, who adores him. He sleeps in late, lounging in bed until breakfast arrives—a far cry from the lonely shelter kennel where his journey began.
“Watching him flourish makes it all worth it,” Nadija said. “He’s proof that with love, even the toughest starts can lead to happy endings.”
