Fairfax, VA – When rescuers from Tails High pulled a tiny tuxedo kitten from a feral cat colony, they had no idea her daring escapes would soon give way to relentless snuggles.
The three-month-old kitten, later named Mayhem, had spent her early life outdoors with minimal human contact. True to her name, she immediately tested her rescuers’ patience—first by wriggling out of her carrier post-spay surgery and hiding beneath a car, then vanishing into the rafters of a volunteer’s garage for three tense days.
“She kept everyone on edge until we finally coaxed her down,” said Setareh, a foster volunteer with Tails High.
But once settled into her foster home, Mayhem’s defiance melted into curiosity—and then, affection. Within 24 hours, the once-skittish kitten was kneading biscuits on Setareh’s lap, her purrs echoing through the room.
A Swift Transformation
Mayhem’s turnaround stunned her rescuers. “One day she was a master escape artist; the next, she was sprinting into our laps,” said Kate, another volunteer. The kitten who’d dodged human touch now demanded it—nuzzling for pets, draping over shoulders, and even cuddling with resident foster cats.
Her hobbies? “Making biscuits nonstop,” Kate told Love Meow. “If you sit down, she’ll tackle your lap like it’s her job.”
Ready for Forever
Now fully acclimated to indoor life, Mayhem splits her time between marathon snuggle sessions and acrobatic play. She leaps after toy mice like a “basketball player dunking,” Setareh laughed, and adores shadowing her foster brothers.
“She’s proof that even the most wary cats can become love bugs,” Kate added. With her oversized paws and rumbling purr, Mayhem is now seeking a forever home—one with ample laps and a front-row seat to her biscuit-making theatrics.
