The kittens, Linus (a shy tuxedo) and Lucy (an adventurous calico), arrived at the shelter malnourished and dehydrated. At just three months old, they needed time to recover before being adopted. While Lucy cautiously explored their new foster home, Linus hesitated, staying hidden in his carrier.

A Natural Foster Mentor
Raylan, a seasoned foster sibling to countless kittens (Instagram @raylan_the_dog), has a knack for putting nervous newcomers at ease. Adopted at two years old, the gentle dog seems to “speak kitten,” patiently coaxing even the most timid out of their shells.
“Lucy loved him immediately,” Laura said. “Raylan wagged his tail, wanting to carry her around. Linus took a little longer, but by the next morning, he was walking tall—tail up and curious.”
From Treats to Naps: A Growing Bond
The trio quickly settled into a routine. During treat time, Raylan waited politely for the kittens to finish before cleaning up crumbs. Lucy, especially smitten, began nuzzling against him for warmth, often dozing off in his fur.
“Linus learned dogs make great heated beds,” Laura laughed. “And Lucy? She’s an expert at finding the coziest spots—usually right next to Raylan.”
A Safe Haven for Strays
Raylan’s nurturing instincts shine as he grooms, plays with, and comforts foster kittens. “He helps them gain confidence so they’re ready for forever homes,” Laura explained.
Now thriving, Linus and Lucy spend snowy days curled up with Raylan under blankets or trailing him around the house. Though they’ll soon be adopted, Raylan’s work won’t end—more kittens await his guidance.
