A newlywed couple paused their honeymoon plans after the husband spotted an abandoned kitten struggling on the side of the road. “The morning after our wedding, on our way to the honeymoon hotel, my husband saw something on the interstate shoulder. He immediately slowed down and pulled over,” the bride told the Associated Press.
She documented the moment, filming herself waiting by the car as her husband ran to retrieve the animal. “He had to run far because we were going so fast. When he got close, he was out of breath—and there was something in his arms,” she said. “It was a fluffy white kitten, smaller than my hand. Blood was coming from its mouth, it was breathing heavily, burning hot, and could barely open its eyes.”
The kitten was flea-infested and had a mouth wound, “bleeding and hyperventilating” when found. The husband insisted on checking after spotting the lone animal, and the bride recalled her shock: “I couldn’t believe he came back with that tiny thing!”
In a follow-up video, the kitten nestled in a purse looked healthier as the couple played with it. “We were actually on our way to the honeymoon hotel when we found her,” the bride said in a voiceover, cuddling the kitten like a baby in the passenger seat. “So many people have shown concern,” she added, calling the rescue “a wedding gift from the universe.”
