New York, NY — As winter temperatures plummeted, a resourceful stray cat sought refuge in an unlikely place: the tire of an abandoned car at a local tire shop.
The black-and-white feline, later named Candy, had been surviving on scraps of food from shop workers, braving the noisy environment for survival. But when employees made a surprising discovery, they knew she needed help—nestled inside the tire were four newborn kittens.
A Safe Haven for a Feline Family
Workers contacted Little Wanderers NYC, a local rescue organization, to ensure the family’s safety.
“Candy gave birth inside a tire on a forklift. Despite the harsh conditions, her kittens were in good health, thanks to her devoted care,” a representative from the rescue shared. “She’s rail-thin but incredibly smart and loving.”
Once the kittens were old enough to explore, volunteers stepped in, transporting the family to a foster home where they could thrive in warmth and safety.
A New Beginning in Foster Care
Larisa, a first-time foster volunteer, welcomed the feline family into her home.
“It’s been such a sweet experience,” Larisa said. “They finally have a warm place to sleep, plenty of food, and no more suffering in the cold.”
Candy quickly adapted, claiming a computer desk as her favorite perch while her kittens tumbled playfully nearby. Though weaned, the kittens still sought comfort nursing, and Candy—ever the doting mother—indulged them.
Kittens Flourish, Mama Cat Ready for Forever Home
The once-tiny kittens grew into energetic, curious cats, each developing distinct personalities. Marshmallow, the shyest of the litter, stayed close to her siblings but shared her mother’s vocal nature.
Now, Candy—described as “regal” and affectionate—is ready to retire from motherhood and find a loving forever home. Thanks to the compassion of strangers, her story, which began in a cold car tire, has a happy ending.
