LOS ANGELES — A timid kitten named Apple, who once struggled to survive alone on the streets, has blossomed into a playful, energetic ball of fur just one day after being placed in a foster home.
The torbie kitten was brought to a city shelter at just a few weeks old, malnourished and frightened. Shelter life proved stressful for the young feline, who barely ate in her kennel. Rescuers from Best Friends Animal Society in Los Angeles intervened, transferring her to foster care for a chance at recovery.
A Rough Start
When foster mom Frankie first welcomed Apple, the kitten was scrawny, covered in flea dirt, and visibly nervous. “I don’t know her exact history, but she was clearly alone outside for a while,” Frankie told Love Meow. Wrapped in a soft blanket, Apple slowly relaxed, her tiny purrs signaling relief.
A Remarkable Transformation
Within 24 hours, Apple’s demeanor shifted dramatically. She devoured meals, played enthusiastically with toys, and reveled in the safety of her new environment. “She discovered she was in a safe space—eating on her own, full of energy, and loving her toys,” Frankie said.
No longer the skittish shelter kitten, Apple became a whirlwind of activity—chasing balls, scaling her playpen, and even commandeering Frankie’s bed with queen-like confidence.
A Bright Future Ahead
Now thriving, Apple spends her days perfecting her “zoomies” and snuggling with plush toys. With proper nutrition and care, she’s steadily gaining weight and strength. In a few weeks, she’ll be ready for adoption, where she’ll trade her foster adventures for a forever home.
For Frankie, Apple’s rapid progress is a testament to resilience. “It’s hard to believe she was once scavenging alone outside,” she said. “Now, she knows she’ll never go hungry again.”
