Nashville, TN – When a stray tabby named Bella and her five newborn kittens arrived at Metro Animal Care and Control a few weeks ago, they needed a lifeline. Enter Lindsay, a dedicated foster volunteer who opened her home to the feline family—and quickly noticed one kitten standing out from the rest.
A Family in Need
Bella, just a year old herself, was fiercely devoted to her tiny litter. The kittens—four brown tabbies (Button, Enoki, Porcini, and Shiitake) and a gray male named Oyster—were less than a week old, their eyes still shut tight. But Oyster, though the smallest, made his presence known immediately.
“He had the loudest voice and the biggest appetite,” Lindsay told Love Meow. “He’d wiggle his way to the best nursing spot and quickly became the chunkiest of the bunch.”
The Adventurous Maverick
As the kittens grew, Oyster’s bold personality shone. While his siblings dozed in their cozy igloo bed, he became a master escape artist—or at least, he tried.
“He made it halfway out before giving up and falling asleep mid-escape,” Lindsay said with a laugh.
Bella, ever the patient mother, kept a watchful eye on her spirited gray son, showering him with purrs and cuddles.
Kitten Chaos and Cuddles
By six weeks old, the litter had graduated to a playpen, where Oyster claimed a new “cave” bed as his personal napping spot—much to his siblings’ confusion. Meanwhile, Bella proved endlessly tolerant, even as her tail became the kittens’ favorite toy.
“She’s the sweetest, gentlest girl,” Lindsay said. “She’d be perfect for someone who wants a calm companion—unlike her little tornado of kittens.”
A Bright Future Ahead
The family will remain in foster care for a few more weeks before being adopted. Bella, having raised her lively brood, is finally ready to enjoy life as a pampered pet. As for Oyster?
“He marches to the beat of his own drum,” Lindsay said. Whether commandeering the cave or staging tiny wrestling matches, the little gray kitten has certainly left his mark—on his foster family and the internet alike.
