Montreal, QC — A scrawny orange kitten, desperate for food, followed a group of community cats to a kind stranger’s home—a decision that would change his life forever.
The frail tabby, visibly malnourished and sickly, devoured the offered meal as if he hadn’t eaten in days. A concerned resident shared his plight online, prompting local rescuers Isabelle, Linda, and Guylaine to intervene. After a two-hour journey to Montreal, the kitten—now named Safran—was placed in the care of Chatons Orphelins Montréal.
From Starvation to Safety
“He was skeletal; you could feel every bone beneath his fur,” said Celine of Chatons Orphelins Montréal. Safran, battling an eye infection, fever, and digestive issues, was placed with a foster family. Despite his struggles, he ate voraciously, determined to recover. Within days, proper nourishment and medical care helped him gain strength—and confidence.
Once skittish, Safran began craving affection, melting into a purring “purrito” when swaddled in blankets. “He’s gentle but startles easily,” rescuers noted. With patience, he blossomed, bonding with other cats and shadowing them around the house.
A New Lease on Life
Now a fluffy, lion-like cat, Safran spends his days sunbathing on cat trees, wrestling with feline friends, and stealing bites from their bowls. “He’s a purr machine—rolling over for cuddles or napping in your arms,” his foster family shared. Though still shy when approached too quickly, he’s found his voice, meowing for food or companionship.
“Safran was lucky to be rescued when he was alone and vulnerable,” rescuers reflected. Today, the once-starving stray fills his home with rumbling purrs—a testament to the power of compassion and second chances.
