North Carolina – When local animal rescuer Beth received a call about two stray kittens living under a homeowner’s porch, she knew she had to act. The bonded sisters, Hazel and Sally, were just 3-4 months old—friendly but in need of urgent care.
Upon arrival, Beth noticed Hazel had a severe eye infection and rushed her to safety, leaving Sally temporarily under the homeowner’s watch. “She planned to return for Sally once Hazel was stable,” said Stephanie Grantham, president of Sparkle Cat Rescue, in an interview with Love Meow.
A Lifesaving Intervention
Hazel’s eye was beyond saving. After weeks of failed treatments, veterinarians performed surgery to remove it. Despite her ordeal, the young calico quickly adapted, thriving in foster care. “She claimed every inch of her new space—climbing cat trees and cuddling her foster mom the first night,” Grantham shared.
Meanwhile, Beth returned for Sally, a long-haired, dilute calico who greeted her with purrs and demands for affection. “She rubbed against everything, even ‘helped’ me work by sitting on my keyboard,” Grantham laughed.
A Heartwarming Reunion
The sisters were placed with a foster family, where their bond reignited. Within days, Hazel and Sally were chasing each other and napping side by side. “They’re playful, loving, and inseparable,” said Grantham. The pair may soon be adopted by their foster family.
Thanks to Beth’s dedication and community support, the once-vulnerable kittens now enjoy safety, love, and a future together. “Their lives are forever changed,” Grantham added.
