Tucked away in the corner of Green Paws Animal Shelter, six-week-old kitten Hazel is waiting for a miracle. Found alone in a cardboard box outside the shelter last month, this tiny tabby with amber eyes and a white-tipped tail has overcome flea infestations and a mild respiratory infection—all while purring loudly enough to charm every volunteer who passes her cage.
“Hazel is a fighter,” says shelter manager Sarah Johnson. “She arrived scared and sneezing, but now she climbs onto anyone’s shoulder like she owns the place.” The feisty furball loves chasing feather toys and curling up in fleece blankets, often falling asleep mid-play with a paw still swatting at imaginary prey.
While Hazel thrives in the shelter’s kitten nursery, staff worry about her chances in a crowded adoption room. “She’s quieter than her littermates, so visitors might overlook her,” Johnson admits. But those who spend time with Hazel discover a gentle soul: she’ll nuzzle into palms, knead blankets with her tiny paws, and trill softly when offered chin scratches.
Green Paws is hosting a “Quiet Kitten Day” on June 5 to showcase understated pets like Hazel. Potential adopters can schedule private meet-and-greets to witness her playful antics without the shelter’s usual hustle. “Hazel deserves a home where someone will notice her subtle sweetness,” Johnson says. “She may not demand attention, but she’ll fill a home with quiet joy.”
The shelter requires adopters to provide kitten-proofing plans and a vet reference. Those interested can contact Green Paws at (555) 123-4567 or visit during afternoon hours. “Don’t let her small size fool you—Hazel’s heart is huge,” Johnson adds. “She’s just waiting for someone to look past the chaos and see the magic in her whiskers.”
