On May 26th, Yuwen Huayuan and Yuwen Chuanxi, the “cat firefighters” in Chengdu, received a distress call and rescued a cat trapped on the rooftop of the 34th floor. Since Yuwen Huayuan founded the “Harmony with Cats” rescue platform in 2016, he and his team have directly rescued nearly 4,000 cats offline and found new homes for 50,000 cats through the adoption platform.
In 2016, Yuwen Huayuan trapped two stray cats in the community, but released one of them. Unfortunately, the released cat died of poisoning after eating a dead rat during pest control in the community. This sense of guilt prompted him to create the WeChat official account “Harmony with Cats” to post information about cat adoptions across the country.
Unexpectedly, it gained more than 200,000 followers, and he adopted more than a dozen cats himself. However, due to the lack of professional knowledge, several cats died of illness.
In 2019, Yuwen Huayuan and volunteers began to rescue cats and record the process. The rescue videos became popular on Bilibili. In 2021, the “Harmony with Cats” account won the title of “Top 100 UP Owners” on Bilibili. Now, the account has more than 2.51 million followers, and the reading volume of many videos exceeds one million.
Now, “Harmony with Cats” has formed a team of about 20 people, including those who take care of and rescue cats, as well as those responsible for video shooting and editing, and logistics. They rescue about three or four cats every day. In March 2025, the TNR animal hospital of “Harmony with Cats” opened, where rescued stray cats can be sterilized for free. At present, the model of “free rescue for stray cats (during the day) and paid rescue for domestic cats” has been launched.
