A couple was surprised to discover an unexpected guest in their backyard after a stray cat led them to the hidden visitor—an encounter that has since gone viral on TikTok.
The video, shared on Tuesday by user @theaveragecatlady, shows the stray cat being offered food. However, instead of eating, the cat stares intently at a spot in the yard. Curious, the poster zooms in, expecting to see another cat. Instead, the camera reveals a fox hiding and watching from a distance.
“Update on the stray cat,” the caption reads. “I brought him out food but he wouldn’t eat. Then I saw what he was watching! I thought it was another cat until I zoomed in…”
The poster added: “This was an unexpected visitor! The cat knew what was watching them way before I or my other kitties knew.”
Foxes are highly adaptable animals, found on every continent except Antarctica. With more than 30 species worldwide, red foxes are the most common in North America. They are often found in forests, fields, wetlands, and even urban areas like parks and backyards. Mostly active at night, foxes rarely pose a threat to humans. However, they can be dangerous to small pets such as kittens, rabbits, and guinea pigs.
While fox attacks on humans are rare and usually linked to rabies, which is uncommon, experts recommend seeking medical attention if bitten and reporting any incident to local animal control authorities.
